René Laubies

René Laubies (1924 - 2006) was active/lived in France.  Rene Laubies is known for Painting.

René Laubies was born 1924 in Cholonville, close to Saigon in Vietnam.  The French artist is linked to the art movements Tachisme and Art Informel.  He is especially linked to Nuagisme, the 'cloudist' artist group around Frédéric Benrath, René Duvillier und Fernando Lerin.

Laubies studied law in Morocco and went to Paris in 1949.  He exhibited his works for the first time at the gallery Colette Allendy in 1953, and this is where he met the art critic Julien Alvard, the founder of Nuagisme.  In 1954, he was awarded the Fénéon Prize of the University of Paris.  He taught as a visiting professor at the University of Alabama from 1956 until 1957.

Laubies died in 2006 in Mangalore, a city in the South of India in a government hospital, where he was taken by a stranger.
